Ping Pong Table Mural • Pao Arts Center
In 2024, the City of Boston launched its Un-monument, Re-monument, De-Monument: Transforming Boston initiative, with the Pao Arts Center serving as one of many amazing curatorial partners. Artists Katelyn Lipton, Jenn Duan, and myself submitted a proposal to Pao for a ping pong table mural project, which we called “Ping Pong Tables of Chinatown: A Celebration of Diversity and Nature.” All of us have fond memories playing ping pong growing up, and we hoped this mobile, interactive art installation may encourage intergenerational gathering, pay, and wellness. Our proposal was chosen to move forward with implementing our vision into reality. We painted two ping pong table murals, with my theme being “people of Chinatown.” On October 20, 2024, we held a community activation event where we got to see the ping pong tables in action! Stay tuned for a blog post on the process behind this project.
